From the developers at Igrosoft comes a sequel to their hit video slot game Pirate, aptly named Pirate 2. This developer may not be known for their flashy names, but what they are known for is consistently producing well-designed, quality games that appeal to a wide range of players.
Perhaps the popularity of Pirate spurred the developers to make a sequel, which isn’t so surprising when you think about it. Igrosoft seems to have taken the elements that made the first game great and built upon them in the second, while still maintaining the old feel and charm of the original. But we haven’t delved into the gameplay yet, so how does it compare to the original as well as Igrosoft’s overall repertoire?
No doubt you are a fan of Igrosoft’s casino games. Although the Russian developer has only been around since the 1990s, many of their games have gained a following on the Internet due to their gameplay and high jackpots. You can immediately tell that this is an Igrosoft game just by looking at the graphical design and interface, as the game looks appealing, colorful and fun at first glance.
Pirate 2 has the simple, colorful and charming look that most of Igrosoft’s games have. I will note that most of the graphical assets have been reused from the first Pirate game, which means that there is little visual differentiation between the two games. While the art style is great, we feel that the reuse of images was a bit disappointing – we would have liked to see something different.
However, the structure of the interface is certainly different in design, if not function – it looks like the game actually takes place inside an old video slot machine from the 1990s, which I thought was a cool touch. But despite the similarities, the game still looks and runs great. The cute animations give the game a little extra charisma as well.
Pirate 2 has many of the same features as other Igrosoft games. The game utilizes a standard 5×3 reel system and offers nine rewarding paylines, with each allowing you to bet up to 25 coins (to compensate for the fact that you cannot change your coin denomination – Pirate 2 is no mere penny slots title!)
The interface below allows you to adjust the number of active paylines, as well as bet high/low, access the paytable, spin the reels and activate the auto-spinner if you don’t want to get carpal tunnel from clicking the spin button over and over again.
As is always the case with Igrosoft, Pirate 2 gives you a serious chance to make some serious bank. The base jackpot of 5,000 coins can be greatly multiplied by betting more than one coin per payline. Maybe that’s why the developers didn’t give you the chance to win free spins.
However, you do get scatter and wild symbols, the former of which triggers Pirate 2’s bonus game. Like its predecessor, Pirate 2 allows you to double or nothing on any winning spin – you simply pick a face-down card and if that card’s value is higher than the dealer’s, you double your winnings. If it’s lower, you lose everything, and if it’s the same, you get what you would have won.
The second bonus game lets you pick prizes from a variety of barrels. Pick the bones and you lose, but if you manage to get all the prizes without picking the bones, you’ll be sent to another room. Here you have to guess the color of dice in a pair of chests. Guess correctly and you can win some massive prizes, including the game’s grand jackpot prize.
Pirate 2 is every bit as good as its predecessor, and in many ways, it’s just like it. Pirate 2 has the same strong gameplay, great graphics, and big prizes as the original, but it doesn’t really offer much that sets it apart from the first game in the series. But that might not be such a bad thing – Pirate remains one of Igrosoft’s most popular video slots for a reason.
Pirate 2 offers the same type of gameplay that made the first game so great, which is no doubt why they decided to stay the course. While it is more derivative, Pirate 2 still stands as an excellent addition to Igrosoft’s library of video slots games.
